As the Philadelphia Flyers are set begin year three under head coach John Tortorella, it is a year that the Flyers hope is the next step in their rebuild.

On day 1 of training camp, 58-players took the ice fighting for 23-roster spots on the opening night roster. With opening night less than 24hrs away, lets meet the final 23-players.

The 2024-2025 Philadelphia Flyers consists of 14-forwards, 7-defensemen, and 2-goalies. Including four new players that were not on the opening night roster last season.

Of those four players, two will be making their Flyers and NHL debuts. Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko will officially put the Flyers jersey on for the first time on Friday.

Sean Couturier will begin his first full season as the Flyers captain. While Rasmus Ristolainen is expected to play in his first opening night game for the Flyers after missing the last three season openers due to injury.

At forward, the Flyers return the majority of the same lineup that was seen for most of last season. Twelve players from last season’s opening night roster return. Those twelve players are Bobby Brink, Noah Cates, Sean Couturier, Nic Deslauriers, Joel Farabee, Tyson Foerster, Morgan Frost, Garnet Hathaway, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, Ryan Poehling, and Owen Tippett.

The other two forwards are the Flyers most recent 1st round draft picks – Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko.

On defense, the Flyers return four players that were on the opening night roster last season. Those four players are Travis Sanheim, Nick Seeler, Cam York, and Egor Zamula.

The other three defenseman are Jamie Drysdale, Erik Johnson, and Rasmus Ristolainen,

In goal, the Flyers will be led by new starter Samuel Ersson. This will be Ersson’s first career opening night start and his first season as the Flyers starter.

Backing up Hart will be Ivan Fedotov who begins his first full season in the NHL.

Fellow Russian Alexei Kolosov will start the season as the Phantoms starter in Lehigh Valley. However, an early season call-up could be in the cards depending on how Fedotov plays in the NHL.

The oldest player on the roster is Erik Johnson, age 36, and the youngest player on the roster is Jett Luchanko, age 18.

The average of the Flyers is 26.8. The third youngest team in the NHL.
