The Philadelphia Flyers landed a potential top-6 center Friday, selecting Jett Luchanko with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft.

From Guelph Storm of the OHL, Luchanko finished 20 G & 54 A in 68-games.

Luchanko has been a high riser late in the draft process. Rising up almost 20 spots in Bob Mckenzie’s last big board from the mid season rankings.

His motor and speed have been two qualities that stand out in his game.

While a bit undersized, 5’11”, Luchanko uses his speed effectively to create the necessary space to allow him to produce in the offensive zone.

The 5’11” 185lbs center finished as the #19 ranked prospect according to Bob Mckenzie.

“Luchanko’s an average-sized player with above-average skill and impressive skating ability, but it’s his on-ice intelligence and knowhow that defines him. He’s also a superb athlete (one of the better in the draft), who performed exceedingly well at the combine. He understands timing, spacing and puck movement at a very advanced level, always finding his way into good spots.” – Scott Wheeler, The Athletic

Luchanko’s game reminds a lot of scouts of a young Nick Suzuki. Undersized center from OHL with a high energy motor.

Flyers fans shouldn’t except Luchanko in Philadelphia anytime soon. But, when Jett arrives, the Flyers will be getting a very dynamic, speedy two-way center to add to the young core of the team.
