The Philadelphia Flyers gave updates on two injured players, Sean Couturier & James van Riemsdyk, Saturday morning before taking on the Carolina Hurricanes. The news was not good.
Sean Couturier, who has been rehabbing a back injury suffered in lead-up to training camp, will now miss three-four months.
On Thursday, Couturier underwent successful back revision surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr. Andrew B. Dossett at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas, Texas.
This is his second back surgery in past eight-months.
Last February, Couturier underwent back surgery to repair an injury suffered in December. It would lead to him missing the final 53-games and eventual surgery.
Sean Couturier could return in March if recovery goes as planned.
James van Riemsdyk Out 6-Weeks
James van Riemsdyk left last Sunday’s game vs San Jose Sharks after blocking a shot with his hand.
van Riemsdyk, who did not return to the game, suffered a broken finger.
On Friday, van Riemsdyk underwent surgery on his left index finger. The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert N. Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
van Riemsdyk is expected to miss six-weeks.
