Game Recaps

Message Sent… Hayes & Konecny Sit Final Period In Loss To Sharks

The Philadelphia Flyers couldn’t muster a goal Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Shutout by the San Jose Sharks 3-0.

As the 3rd period started, the Flyers were down 2-0 to the Sharks. In need of a big 20-minutes to get back in the game, the Flyers big guns would appear to be relied heavily on.

However, head coach John Tortorella had other plans.

With the Flyers already missing James van Riemsdyk due to injury, Tortorella shortened his bench his bench to start the 3rd period. But, it wasn’t the usual suspects that were sat.

Kevin Hayes & Travis Konecny were benched for the entire 3rd period.

“I don’t think he (Tortorella) was too happy with my game if I had to guess,” Kevin Hayes said post-game.

The bench of Hayes & Konecny became very evident when the Flyers went on the power-play with 14:20 left in the game. Zack MacEwen, Lukas Sedlak, and Tanner Laczynski all saw power-play time.

“We weren’t playing good enough,” Travis Konecny said post-game. “I was out for both goal; I’m sure that had something to do with it.”

Konecny added “he has been on us about that since day-1 of camp. Doesn’t matter who you are, you gotta play the right way.”

Oskar Lindblom Returns To Philadelphia

Former fan favorite, Oskar Lindblom, made his return to Philadelphia tonight with his new team. It was a special trip home for Oskar.

In his return, Lindblom played 13:11 & registered a shot on goal.

Loose Pucks…

  1. Before the game, the Flyers loaned forward Jackson Cates to the Phantoms. Cates’s extra forward spot was replaced by Lukas Sedlak, who was claimed last Wednesday.
  2. Felix Sandstrom’s 1st career NHL win will have to wait for another day. Sandstrom stopped 22 of the 24 shots fired his way in the losing effort.
  3. James van Riemsdyk left tonight’s game in the 1st period after blocking a shot with his hand. van Riemsdyk did not return to the game. Head coach John Tortorella did not have an update post-game.
  4. Kevin Hayes & Travis Konecny were benched in the 3rd period. A clear message being sent by their head coach to the locker room.
  5. Nick Seeler had a game high 5- blocks.
  6. The Flyers had a much better night in the face-off dot. After going just 30% last night in Nashville, the Flyers finished just by winning 57%. Scott Laughton led the Flyers with 7 wins in 9 face-offs.
