The post John Tortorella has certainly brought some new energy to the Flyers.
In the 14 games prior to his dismissal, the Flyers were 2-10-2. A record that plummeted them to the bottom five teams in the NHL.
During that time, the Flyers were outscored 53-27.
In the two games since, the Flyers are 2-0-0 and have outscored their opponents 12-8.
While obviously the past two games aren’t just because John Tortorella isn’t the head coach anymore. However, it is a signal that some guys may have needed this breath of fresh air without Tortorella.
Matvei Michkov is the most obvious one.

For the second straight game, Michkov was a terror on the ice. Adding to his NHL rookie goal leading, as well as extending his point streak to five points.
Michkov and Tortorella had their moments together. But, everytime, Michkov would respond to the hard coaching by his former head coach.
Much like Thursday, it was the Matvei Michkov show. Something that Flyers fans have been begging for all year.
The talent is obviously there, but Michkov hasn’t had the full freedom to show it.
However, with his now former heavy defensive head coach not behind the bench, his replacement Brad Shaw, seems to have told Michkov the chains are off and you are free.
Again today, showing what the Flyers have in the young 20-year-old future star.

While his first goal opened up the scoring for the Flyers, second straight game doing so, his second goal on a semi-breakaway stole the show.
Michkov went backhand bardown over the glove of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. A goal that topped his unreal shootout goal from yesterday at practice.
IT’S MICHKOV AGAIN đź‘€
He’s got four goals in his last two games!
