If the Flyers want to get back into the playoff race, their upcoming stretch against the Metropolitan Division will play a big part.

On Tuesday, the Flyers started a 9 game in 18 day stretch. Of which, 8 of the 9 games are against the Metropolitan Division.

The Devils and Flyers will be familiar foes during that stretch. Today marking the first of three matchups in the next six games.

New Jersey hasn’t been nice to the Flyers recently. Losing six of their last eight games at the Prudential Center by a combined score of 33-19.

Much like Thursday’s game against the Islanders, the Flyers found themselves down 1-0 after another low event, sloppy 1st period.

Matvei Michkov would tie the game in the 2nd period. Scoring his 14th goal of the season.

Sean Couturier sprung Michkov on the breakaway after intercepting a Luke Hughes pass.

In his last 5 games, he has 4 points – 2 goals and 2 assists – after having just 2 points in his previous 13 games.

It was the second straight game Couturier and Michkov combined for a goal.

The Flyers first power-play of the game didn’t have much going for it. Spending most of the time retrieving the puck from their own zone.

Their second, however, provided the game winner.

Tyson Foerster would go hard to work along the boards to create a turnover that found the stick of Noah Cates, who then would find Bobby Brink all alone in-front for the goal.

“We find a way to score a power-play goal on nothing but grinding and one pass,” Tortorella said on the game winner. “Then we did a good job in protecting that lead.”

Brink’s 6th goal of the season was his second in the last three games.

Samuel Ersson continued to back bone of the Flyers recent good stretch.

While the shots were low, Ersson made the timely saves needed for his 13th win of the season.

He made 12 saves to earn his fourth straight win.

The Flyers improve to 21-20-5 on the season. Are above hockey .500 for first time since December 18th.

Next up, the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center at 7:00 pm.
