The Flyers season came to a halting end on Sunday because of mistakes from their veteran players. After being in full control until 3:03 left in the 3rd period, mental mistake after mental mistake in final three minutes costed them their season.

“We just blew it,” head coach Alain Vigneault said. “We made some mistakes that we just gave them goals. Things that you can’t do in this league and things that we did tonight with some of our most experienced players.”

That collapse came at a cost. A cost that saw veteran Michael Raffl be traded away to the Washington Capitals, their opponent tonight. Signaling the Flyers are starting to look towards next season.

With 15-games left in the season, the Flyers would have needed a miracle to make the playoffs. Now, will look to give an extended look at some prospects. Including young center Tanner Laczynski, who will be on the active roster the rest of the season per GM Chuck Fletcher.

“Two mental mistakes,” forward Claude Giroux said. “When you get position at that point of the game, and letting them score two goals like that, that just can’t happen. It’s very frustrating, especially the position we are in right now in the standings. That just can’t happen.”
