As the Philadelphia Flyers begin a new era under new head coach Rick Tocchet, it is an era they hope is next step in their rebuild.

On day 1 of training camp, 52-players took the ice fighting for 23-roster spots on the opening night roster. With training camp and the preseason in the rear view mirror, lets meet the final 23-players.

The 2025-2026 Philadelphia Flyers consists of 14-forwards, 7-defensemen, and 2-goalies. There is six new players that were not on the opening night roster last season.

Sean Couturier will begin his second full season as the Flyers captain. Travis Konecny is expected to be one of a couple assistant captains. Travis Sanheim and Garnat Hathaway are two names to watch as potential third captains.

Matvei Michkov will begin his second season in the orange and black. The young Russian will look to follow up his rookie season – 26 goals and 37 assists in 80 games – with an even better sophomore season.

At forward, the Flyers return the majority of their core lineup that was seen for most of last season. Eight players from last season’s opening night roster return. Those eight players are Bobby Brink, Sean Couturier, Tyson Foerster, Garnet Hathaway, Jett Luchanko, Matvei Michkov, Travis Konecny, and Owen Tippett.

In addition to the returning eight players, three other players return who spent time with the team last season. Those three are Nic Deslauriers, Rodrigo Abols, and Noah Cates – who missed the season opener last season with a lower body injury.

The other three forwards are new additions to the Flyers organization over the past 6 months – Nikita Grebenkin, Trevor Zegras, and Christian Dvorak.

On defense, the Flyers return four players that were on the opening night roster last season. Those four players are Travis Sanheim, Jamie Drysdale, Cam York, and Egor Zamula.

The other three defenseman are Adam Ginning, Noah Juulsen, and Nick Seeler – who also missed last year’s season opener due to injury.

Cam York is a candidate to start the season on IR due to an injury suffered in last week of training camp. Dennis Gilbert, who cleared waivers on Saturday, will make the roster if York isn’t ready.

Rasmus Ristolainen, recovering from offseason surgery, will begin the season on IR. He is expected to miss the first two months of the season.

In goal, the Flyers will be led by Samuel Ersson. It is the second straight season he will be the Flyers starter. He will make his second career opening night start on Thursday in Florida.

The backup will be Dan Vladar, who signed a two year deal in the offseason with the Flyers. Vladar will be tasked with improving a position that just had 11 wins in support of Ersson.

Alexei Kolosov, whose first season in the NHL was an eventful one, will begin the season as the starter with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He will be joined by rookie Carson Bjarnason, who turned after his season ended in Brandon last year.

The oldest player on the roster is Nic Deslauriers, age 34, and the youngest player on the roster is Jett Luchanko, age 19.

The average of the Flyers is 27.1. The fifth youngest team in the NHL.
