PHILADELPHIA: The Philadelphia Flyers comeback came up one goal short against the NHLs best team, losing to the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 Sunday afternoon.
The birthday boy, Sean Couturier, got the Flyers on the board first early in the first period.
His fifth goal of the season was his third goal in his last six games. Noah Juulsen’s point shot hit Couturier in the mid-section, deflecting by Mackenzie Blackwood.
Today was also career game #900 for Couturier.
It was all Avalanche after that.
Colorado would outshoot, 16-2, and outscore, 3-0, the Flyers over the next 25+ minutes.
Travis Konecny scored his seventh goal of the season to break up the Colorado dominance. His point streak now moves to four games, two goals and four assists.
Trevor Zegras was awarded a penalty shot early in the third period but was stopped by Blackwood.
While Zegras holds the NHL best shootout percentage, he is 0 for 3 on penalty shots.
Nick Seeler played in career game #400 today.
After taking a year off due to covid and on the brink of retirement, Seeler reaching the 400 game mark is a pretty big accomplishment for himself.
In his time in Philadelphia, 295 games, he has revitalized his career.
Samuel Ersson kept the Flyers in the game long enough for them to have a chance. He ended his day stopping 25 Avalanche shots.
The Flyers return to action on Tuesday night when they host the San Jose Sharks.
