The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Minnesota Wild, 5-4, in a shootout Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Before the game, John Tortorella thought tonight’s game vs the Minnesota Wild would be similar to their game earlier in the season. Hard nosed, low scoring game.
But, the two teams who have struggled to score goals this season, combined for nine tonight.
Scott Laughton would give the Flyers a 1-0 lead just before the halfway point of the 1st period. Laughton’s 17th of the season was his second in as many games.
Joel Farabee would give the Flyers a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period. It is the 4th straight game that Farabee has scored a goal after going 26 straight without one.
Rasmus Ristolainen tied the game with 22.5 left in the 2nd period. Ristolainen’s 3rd of the season ended a 22 game goal-less drought.
Tyson Foerster would tie the game at 4-4, just 44 seconds after the Wild took a 4-3 lead. Foerster’s 2nd goal of the season extended his point streak to four games.
Carter Hart made 20 saves in his 19th win of the season.
Make It Four Straight For Joel Farabee
After going 26 straight without a goal, Joel Farabee’s luck has turned around. Some would say his puck luck has finally turned the corner.
With a rebound goal, a net front goal, and a goal off his rear end, Farabee’s stick work contributed to his 4th straight tonight. Deflecting home a Noah Cates shot.
Farabee’s recent good stretch is a testament to what his head coach has been preaching. If one goes in, multiple could follow it.
This is the second time in Farabee’s career with a four game goal streak.
Tyson Foerster Has Arrived
After not getting a point in his first three NHL games, Tyson Foerster has found his stride in the NHL.
Last Saturday, Foerster netted his 1st career NHL goal against the Carolina Hurricanes. Tonight, Foerster netted his 2nd career NHL goal. Extending his point streak to four games.
“Not just the things that show up as far as goals, but the other things too,” John Tortorella said of how impressed he is with Tyson Foerster. “Those are the things that I concentrate on.”
In his short, 7 game NHL career, Foerster has 2 goals & 4 assists.
Nic Deslauriers “Upper-Body” Injury
As the Flyers took the ice for warmups, Nic Deslauriers joined his Flyers teammates. As they returned to start the game, Deslauriers did not come out with the Flyers.
Per Flyers PR, Deslauriers has an upper body injury and will be revaluated on Friday.
