With Aleksei Kolosov in the AHL for the foreseeable future, the time is now for Ivan Fedotov to show his worth.
The Flyers backup goalie position has been a topic of conversation all season. Fedotov and Kolosov have gone back & forth sharing the backup role as John Tortorella has ridden whoever was hot – well in this case lukewarm – at best.
But, with the season pretty much over, it will now be evaluation time for Tortorella for his now permanent backup.
For the second straight game, Fedotov got the start in net for the Flyers.
When the Flyers needed him to make saves, Fedotov made the saves tonight. Highlighted by stopping three Senators break-aways in the 2nd period.
However, the difference tonight was once again a weak goal let in by Fedotov. One that saw the puck never leave the ice on the shot and go right thru his five hole.
It will be interesting to see how many starts Fedotov will get over the final 16 games of the season. But, its the perfect time to figure out if he is capable of being the backup. Something that John Tortorella hopes to find out.

In the midst of their five game losing streak, all during their season long seven game homestand, the Flyers have been off. One would say not playing their structure.
John Tortorella gave the team a pass in their first game of the homestand due to the travel home from Winnipeg. But, then made it well known his displeasure by wanting to keep his comments in the locker room after the next.
Fast forward now three games and the Flyers still have yet to end their losing streak.
While the wins are not there, the effort is slowly starting to come back. An effort that was severely hurt by the lose of one of their leaders Scott Laughton to the Maple Leafs at the deadline.
The one person who you could always look to on the Flyers bench for energy was Laughton. But, since his departure, that energy has been just too hard to find.
As the season goes on, someone in the locker room must step up to fill that void. A void that many players have mentioned as a perfect opportunity for others to step up.
Even though it started bad, the Flyers are slowly starting to regroup and find their way again. At least in the short term.

QUICK HITS…
+ Jamie Drysdale scored for the second straight game. A goal that looked very similar to his on Sunday vs the Devils. While it has been an up & down season for Drysdale, he has turned it around as of late and really starting to find his game more constantly.
+ Travis Konecny’s goal-less drought has now reached 9 games. It is his second 9 goal drought in the past 19 games. In each of his nine seasons in the NHL, Konecny has at least an 8 game goal-less drought in each.
+ Cam York returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch on Sunday vs the Devils. York was asked after morning skate if he got a reason for his benching. He told reporters he had not spoken to John Tortorella about it.
Next up, the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00 pm on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center.
