The Philadelphia Flyers and Christian Dvorak agreed on a five year extension Monday night. Elliotte Friedman first reported the news of potential extension last Friday in his 32 Thoughts podcast.

The official terms were five year, $25.75 million dollar extension ($5.15M AAV). Anthony DiMarco was the first to report the deal.

Dvorak, who signed a one year deal with the Flyers in the offseason, is having a career year so far in Philadelphia.

The soon to be 30 year old forward has 9 goals and 16 assists in his first 38 games as a Flyer.

Head coach Rick Tocchet played a key part in the process.

One of the main reasons Dvorak signed in Philadelphia during the summer was to reunite with Tocchet. The two were together for five years in Arizona with the Coyotes.

This is a huge boost for the Flyers and their recruitment of potential free agents in the future. Once again showing that Tocchet is seen around the league as a players coach who players want to play for.

The deal carries limited no trade protection with the first two years being full no trade and the final three being limited no trade.

“We’re very happy to have Christian be a part of the Philadelphia Flyers for the foreseeable future. He has played a pivotal role in our team’s success this season and proven to be a reliable, two-way center that can be trusted in all situations. More importantly, he plays a big role in our locker room and has fit in seamlessly to our group and what we are building.” – Flyers GM Danny Briere
