Game Recaps

Flyers Can’t Pull The Upset, Lose To Rangers In OT

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their fourth straight game Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Losing to the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime.

With the Rangers up 1-0 and controlling the play, the Flyers were searching for anything to change the momentum.

Carter Hart, who has been the Flyers MVP this season, would get the opportunity and would deliver. Robbing Vincent Trocheck on the goal mouth of a sure fire goal.

Hart’s big save came at the 12:02 mark of the 1st period. Thereafter, the Flyers would take it to the Rangers.

Over the next 32:02 of play, the Flyers would outshoot the Rangers 19-13 and score twice.

Instead of a 2-0 Rangers lead and a completely different night, Hart flipped the momentum and the Flyers capitalized on it. Something that they have not been able to do over the past few weeks.

“Gave our guys a lot of credit and regrouping,” Tortorella said about the Rangers jumping out early on the Flyers. “Stuck with it. Played a really good 2nd period as far as our checking. Thought we played a really good game.”

Owen Tippett Dazzles

In his first season with the Flyers, Owen Tippett has flourished under head coach John Tortorella. Something that started with a deadline trade to the Flyers last season.

With new life, Tippett has taken the opportunity to play meaningfully NHL minutes and ran with it.

Tonight, Tippett was a wrecking ball. As he as been for most of the season.

Tippett scored his 18th goal of the season in the 1st period and finished with a team high 25:26 of ice time.

Trade Deadline Looming

As tonight’s game came to an end, some Flyers now sit and await their fates with the trade deadline looming on Friday.

James van Riemsdyk, the likeliest Flyer to be traded, played tonight instead of sitting out for trade related reasons.

In addition to van Riemsdyk, every rumored Flyers player with trade interest were in the lineup. The likes of Kevin Hayes, Nick Seeler, & Justin Braun all played.

Come 3:00pm on Friday, a few of these players could be on their way out. A reality that has become true of yet another Flyers season.

Elliot Desnoyers To Phantoms

On Monday, John Tortorella mentioned that Elliot Desnoyers would be better off in an AHL playoff race than the NHL.

After playing in his 2nd career NHL game tonight, Desnoyers is headed back to Lehigh Valley to do just that.
