Flyers Struck By Lightning In A Shootout

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped a heart-breaker, 4-3 in a shootout, to the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

 

 

After failing to score in the 1st period in their last 8-games, the Flyers got two 1st period goals tonight.

Claude Giroux would give the Flyers a 1-0 lead just 1:34 into the game.

Travis Konecny would give the Flyers a 2-0 lead just over the halfway point of the 1st period. Ending a 5-game goal-less drought.

Tampa Bay would mount a comeback in the 2nd period. Scoring twice on 13-2nd-period shots.

When the game looked like it was headed to overtime, the Lightning would take a 3-2 lead with 1:56 left. Steven Stamkos would squeak one under Carter Hart from the corner.

 

 

However, the Flyers would tie the game with 0:09 seconds left.

Claude Giroux would get his second goal of the night. His 7th goal of the season.

After a fun & entertaining overtime, featuring no whistles & 7-shots, the game would head to a shootout. Where the Lightning would win 2-0.

Carter Hart stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced in the losing effort.

 

Kevin Hayes Misses Game

After returning from injury on Saturday, Kevin Hayes got struck by the injury bug again.

Hayes left briefly during the 2nd period of Tuesday’s night game. But, Hayes returned for the 3rd period.

This morning, head coach Alain Vigneault said Hayes was going to play tonight. However, Hayes did not suit up.

After the game, Vigneault said “have more information within the next 48-72 hours” on Hayes.

 

 

1st Period Boost

After not scoring a 1st period goal in their last 8-games, the Flyers got a big 1st period boost tonight. Scoring two 1st period goals.

It was their first 1st period goals since scoring twice vs Vancouver on October 28th.

To start the season, the Flyers scored a 1st period goal in five of their first six games. In those 5-games, the Flyers were 4-0-1.

On the season, the Flyers are 4-1-1 when scoring a 1st period goal.

 

 

Emotional Night For Oskar Lindblom

Oskar Lindblom has become a role-model for Hockey Fights Cancer. A role-model because of his fight vs ewing Sarcoma in 2019.

During the 2019-2020 season, Lindblom was diagnosed with ewing Sarcoma in December.

After fighting & beating cancer, Lindblom made an emotional return in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals vs the New York Islanders.

Last season, Lindblom was honored by the NHL for his battle. Winning the 2020-2021 Masterton Memorial Trophy.

 

 

8th Straight Loss To Tampa

Coming into tonight, the Flyers had lost 7th straight to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their longest losing streak to date vs any NHL team.

With the 4-3 loss in a shootout, the Flyers have now lost 8-straight to the Lightning.

The Flyers have now lost five out of their last six against the Lightning in Philadelphia.
