The Rangers test has always been the next stepping stone for the Flyers. One that took a big step earlier this year in Philadelphia.

In their first matchup of the year, the annual Black Friday game in Philadelphia, the Flyers passed the test. Finally being able to beat the team thats fanbase has invaded the Wells Fargo Center the past few seasons.

Tonight, the Flyers had the chance to take an even bigger step at Madison Square Garden. A building that they have just 3 wins in since 2019.

Owen Tippett got them on the board early. Scoring just 85-seconds into the game.

His 14th goal of the season was a redirect off his skate in-front on the odd man rush.

Tippett started the play in the defensive zone. Getting to the loose puck and chipping it by a Rangers forward at the line to create the eventual 3v1 with Travis Konecny and Morgan Frost.

Both Konecny and Frost had assists on the play.

From that point on, it was all Rangers.

New York would score six straight goals. Taking a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period before scoring early in the final period to put the game out of reach.

Their first two goals came just 1:24 apart in the 1st period. A period in which the Flyers allowed 15 Ranger shots.

It was fifth time in their last 12 games giving up two goals in the 1st period.

The Rangers finished with 37 shots on goal. Just the second time the Flyers have allowed 30 or more shots in a game in their last 22 games.

Igor Shesterkin stopped the final 32 Flyers shots to shut the door on the Flyers win and point streak. Finishing the night with 33 saves.

Travis Sanheim continued to climb the ladder of games played in a Flyers uniform. Passing Kjell Samuelsson for 9th all time in games played by a defenesman.

Career game #546 for the Sanheim who skated 23:30 in the game.

Samuel Ersson made 31 saves in the loss. Ending his five game win streak.

Next up, the New York Islanders tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at UBS Arena.
