Samuel Ersson made 35 saves in the Flyers 2-0 shutout win over the Winnipeg Jets.

Cam Atkinson’s 9th goal of the season opened the scoring for the Flyers. Atkinson ended a 26 game goal-less drought with his first of the night.

“Felt pretty good, longtime coming,” Atkinson said after ending his 26 game goal-less drought. “Once I score one, I knew the pressure, monkey off the back, whatever you want to call it… once I pot one, I’m gonna score a bunch.”

Atkinson didn’t have to wait long for his next goal. Scoring his 10th goal of the season early in the 2nd period to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead.

Philadelphia (23-14-6) have points, 4-1-1, in five of their last six games.

Sean Couturier did not play tonight against the Jets due to a “minor injury” per GM Danny Briere. Jamie Drysdale also did not play. Drysdale was under the weather per Briere.

In their place, Bobby Brink and Marc Staal rejoined the lineup.

“They end up having to play as a team,” John Tortorella said on how his team dealt with the absence of Sean Couturier and Jamie Drysdale. “Think there is a little bit more focus knowing they’ve lost a couple big guys and its a good win for us.”

The Flyers power-play scored a goal for the fifth straight game.

Winnipeg certainly had their chances throughout the game. Especially Jets center Gabe Vilardi.

Samuel Ersson robbed Vilardi not once… not twice… but three times on the doorstep tonight. All three saves getting the ou’s & oa’s from the Jets crowd.

“Confidence for me is high right now,” Ersson said after winning his 10th game in last 14 starts. “I’m feeling good about my game right now.”

The Flyers now head to St Louis for the final game of their three game road trip.

Score: Flyers 2 – Jets 0 , WIN

Record: 23 – 14 – 6

Next Game: Monday 1/15 @ St Louis Blues
