The Philadelphia Flyers fall to the Boston Bruins 7-3 in the NHL Outdoors Sunday at Lake Tahoe.
After winning the opening faceoff, the Flyers were off to a good start. But, Phil Myers would catch an edge at the Bruins blue-line & Boston would go in on a 2v1. Where Brad Marchand & David Pastrnak would execute it perfectly & put Boston up 1-0 just 34-seconds in.
Joel Farabee would tie the game six minutes later. Sean Couturier would dump the puck in & it would perfectly bounce right to Farabee in the high slot. Farabee would then slap it by Tuukka Rask for the goal.
Just 14-seconds after exiting the penalty box, Sean Couturier would give the Flyers the lead. Couturier would exit the box & lead the Flyers into the zone on a 3v2. After a couple of passes & a shot from James van Riemsdyk, Couturier would put home the rebound to tie the game.
But, just 39-seconds later, the Bruins would tie the game.
Charlie McAvoy’s shot from the point would somehow beat Carter Hart. McAvoy’s shot somehow found the back of the net after finding its way through three Flyers & a Bruin in-front.
Just like the 1st period, the Bruins would score in the opening minute of the 2nd period.
David Pastrnak would beat Carter Hart short-side high off the cross-bar. The puck was on edge when Pastrnak shot the puck & Hart was slow to react to the quick shot.
It would all unravel from there. The Bruins would score 3-goals in a 1:39 span late in the 2nd.
Charlie Coyle would make it 4-2. Just 33-seconds later, Trent Frederic would make it 5-2. And, Nick Ritchie would make it 6-2 just over a minute later.
James van Riemsdyk would make it 6-3 on the power-play mid-way through the 3rd period. van Riemsdyk would re-direct a Kevin Hayes pass that would deflect off a Bruins skate & beat Tuukka Rask.
David Pastrnak would get his hat-trick with 2:56 left in the 3rd period. Has 2nd against the Flyers this season.
Carter Hart stopped 17 of the 23 shots he faced in the losing effort. Brian Elliott stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced in relief of Hart in the 3rd period.
– 1:39 , a timeframe the Flyers want back. Late in the 2nd period, the Flyers would give up 3-goals in a span of 1:39 to put the game out of reach. After coming back to take a 2-1 lead after giving up a goal just 34-seconds in, the Flyers completely unraveled late in the 2nd.
– James van Riemsdyk now holds the record for most games played outdoors in the NHL. In his 7th career outdoor game, van Reimsdyk finished with 1G & 2A in 15:17 TOI.
– One thing Ivan Provorov has never done in his NHL career is miss a game. Since entering the league in 2016, Provorov has now played in 329-straight-games. A number that now ties the record held by Dan Girardi for the most consecutive games played by a defenseman to start a career. Provorov will set the new record on Wednesday vs the New York Rangers.
– When the Flyers return home on Monday, they possibly could be joined by some players missing due to covid. Claude Giroux & Justin Braun’s 14-day quarantine period ends on Monday. Which, if they pass protocol, could return to practice on Tuesday & return to the lineup on Wednesday.
