Flyers Squeak By Flames In Overtime

The Philadelphia Flyers come from behind and top the Calgary Flames, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

 

 

Just before the midway point of the 1st period, the Flames would take the lead. A goal setup by hometown kid Johnny Gaudreau.

Gaudreau would force a turnover off the stick of Ivan Provorov. On the ensuring rush, an Oliver Kylington shot would deflect off of Sean Couturier & past Carter Hart.

Kevin Hayes would tie the game early in the 2nd period.

Hayes’s pass would deflect right back to him in the left face-off dot. With Jacob Markstrom out of place, Hayes would slide the puck into the open net.

After a scoreless 3rd period, the game would head to overtime.

Just 45-seconds into overtime, Cam Atkinson would slam home the rebound off of Sean Couturier’s shot. His 7th goal of the season.

Carter Hart stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced in his 5th win of the season.

 

 

Final 8:06 To 1st Period

With 8:06 left in the 1st period, the Flyers would get their first power-play of the game. 1:29 later, the Flyers would get 31-seconds of 5-on-3 time.

On the 3:29 of power-play time & 0:31 of 5-on-3 time, the Flyers would only muster 3-shots on net.

With 3:24 left in the 1st period, the Flyers would get their third power-play of the game. A power-play that would only muster 1-shot on net & two scoring chances for the Flames on the penalty kill.

After being on the power-play for 5:29 of the final 8:06 of the 1st period, the Flyers would only muster 4-shots on net. None of which would generate any high quality scoring chances.

 

 

Kevin Hayes Scores For His Brother Jimmy

With 15:23 left in the 2nd period, Kevin Hayes would get his first goal of the season. A moment Hayes will never forget.

After scoring, Hayes would point to the sky & pound his chest. Motioning to the sky saying that was for you. A goal for his late brother Jimmy.

With a point in his first game of the season on Saturday, Hayes has points in back-to-back games to start his season.

 

 

Power-Play Struggles Continue

The Flyers had 6-power-plays tonight. Two of which created 31-seconds of 5-on-3 time.

On those 6-power-plays, the Flyers mustered only 4-shots. None of which found the back of the net.

Over the past 8-games, the Flyers power-play has fallen from 12th to 25th in the rankings. A drop that has been caused by only scoring twice in those 8-games.

After tonight’s 0-for-6, the Flyers power-play is now just 2 for their last 29 power-play opportunities.

 

 

Johnny Gaudreau Returns To Philadelphia

The pride of Salem New Jersey, Johnny Gaudreau made his annual stop in Philadelphia. A stop that has been very good to Gaudreau & the Flames.

Visiting Philadelphia 5-times previously in his career Gaudreau & the Flames were 4-1-0 vs the Flyers. Tonight, the Flyers would get the better of the Flames.

In his 12-career-games vs his hometown team, Gaudreau has 5-goals & 10-assists.

Tonight, Gaudreau finished with an assist & 10-shots on goal in 17:08 of ice-time.
