Five-Goal 2nd Period Fuels Flyers Past The Coyotes

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Avenging their 4-3 overtime loss in Arizona a few weeks back.

The Flyers used a five goal 2nd period to propel themselves to their 4th straight win.

Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny each had three points in the 2nd period. Both scoring a goal and adding two assists.

Morgan Frost, who had four points against the Coyotes a few weeks back in Arizona, followed it up with four points again vs the Coyotes.

Carter Hart, in his first start since his concussion on December 23rd, stopped 21 of the 23 shots faced. Hart allowed two goals on the first six shots he faced. But, finished the game stopping the last 15-shots.

Travis Konecny Sparks 5-Goal 2nd Period

As the Flyers took the ice for the start of the 2nd period, the NHL released the list of all stars. A list that did not include Flyers leading goal scorer Travis Konecny.

Konecny, who had 19-goals entering tonight, got the Flyers on the board 26-seconds into the 2nd period. It would be the first of three points for Konecny in the period.

With his 20th goal, Konecny became the 3rd Flyer in the last 20-years to score 20-goals in the first 33-games of the season. Joining Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne.

In the 2nd period, the Flyers fired 19-shots on goal. Five of which found the back of the net. Including two of them coming on the power-play.

Kevin Hayes Named To 1st All Star Game

The Philadelphia Flyers representative for the 2023 NHL All Star game is Kevin Hayes.

Hayes, who led the Flyers in points for most of the season so far, was selected over the red-hot and Flyers leading goal scorer Travis Konecny.

“It means a lot for my family,” Hayes said after the game. “Jimmy always said I would be an all star one day.”

It is Hayes’ first all star selection.
