Flyers Outlast Winless Coyotes

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Arizona Coyotes, 3-0, Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

After falling in their final game of their 3-game Western Canada road-trip, the Flyers responded with a win tonight. A win that did not come easy vs the winless Coyotes.

Scoreless after the first two-periods, the Flyers erupted for 3-goals in the 3rd period.

Sean Couturier’s goal with 13:06 left in the 3rd period proved to be the game winner. It was Couturier’s 4th goal this season.

Scott Laughton would make it 2-0 with 2:09 left. Laughton caught Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka off his line ad Vejmelka was attempting to reposition himself after trying to get to the Coyotes bench for the extra attacker.

Claude Giroux would get the empty netter to make it 3-0. Giroux’s 5th goal of the season.

Carter Hart was spectacular. Earning his 1st shutout of the season after stopping all 29-Coyotes-shots.

Carter Hart Shines

Carter Hart struggled last season to shake off bad starts. Something that caused mistakes & lay-overs into the next game.

So far this season, that has not been the case. Hart has looked like his normal self from his first two seasons in Philadelphia.

After both losses this season, Hart responded in his next game with a big performance. Both resulting in wins.

Tonight, after giving up 3-goals in Calgary on Saturday, Hart responded with his first shutout of the season. Stopping all 29-Coyote-shots.

Cam Atkinson’s Disallowed Goal

The Flyers thought the game’s opening goal was theirs mid-way through the 2nd period. But, after the referee’s came together, the goal was disallowed.

In a net-mouth scramble, the puck found its way to Cam Atkinson in-front. Where Atkinson rammed it home. Unfortunately, how it got there, is where the referee’s believed it was illegal.

While Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka was attempting to cover the puck, Derick Brassard kicked his glove. Knocking the puck loose to Cam Atkinson in-front.

It was initially ruled a goal. However, after the referee’s came together, it was ruled no goal. Which was the right call.

Game #700 For Sean Couturier

Sean Couturier played in his 700th career game in the NHL tonight. All 700-games coming in Philadelphia over the past 11-seasons.

With all 700-games coming in Philadelphia, Couturier became just the 12th Flyers player to reach that milestone.

In his 700th game, Couturier would net the game winner mid-way through the 3rd period. His 178th career goal in Philadelphia & his 4th this season.

Shayne Gostisbehere Returns To Philadelphia

With the Flyers needing cap space, GM Chuck Fletcher had to make a tough decision. A decision that saw Fletcher ship Shayne Gostisbehere to the Arizona Coyotes.

Over 7-seasons, Gostisbehere played 384-games in a Flyers uniform. Finishing with 60-goals & 159-assists.

Now in the Western Conference, tonight marked Gostisbehere’s first and only visit to Philadelphia this season.

In his return, Gostisbehere had 2-shots in 19:31 of ice-time.
