While it is just preseason, the Flyers look like a completely different team then the one that finished two points shy of a playoff berth last season. A team that has a new found energy.

So far, thru four games, the youth movement has stolen the show. A movement captained by “The Mad Russian”, as John Tortorella calls him, Matvei Michkov.

However, its not just what Michkov is doing by himself. Its the energy and fuel it is providing the team as a whole.

The Flyers as a whole have been feeding off what Michkov has brought to the lineup. Something the Flyers have been missing for the past decade – high level talent.

While it just is a small sample size and the preseason, what the Flyers have shown so far has an exciting look to it.

Olle Lycksell Stock Continues To Rise

Most of the Flyers forward positions are all but set in stone already headed into the third week of training camp. But, that has not stopped Olle Lycksell from making a real strong push for a roster spot.

Lycksell, who is in the NHL group at training camp, continued his strong preseason with another strong performance. One that saw Lycksell set up the Flyers first two goals.

First, Lycksell slid a slik pass from behind the goal to Rasmus Ristolainen who fired it back post to tie the game in the 1st period. Then, Lycksell made a sneaky back post pass from the far dot to Matvei Michkov for the slam dunk on the power-play.

As the roster sits, Lycksell may not have a permanent spot in the Flyers lineup. But, he is certainly making a very strong case for a roster spot.

Jett Luchanko Rookieness Shows

The one major surprise of Flyers training camp has been this years 1st round draft pick Jett Luchanko who still remains in Flyers camp.

However, tonight Jett looked like the just turned 18-year-old rookie he is. Struggling against the heavy Bruins team.

In his previous two games, Jett has been noticeable for all the right reasons. Showing what could be down the road, but also showing that he could possibly be ready for a chance at the NHL in his first training camp.

Tonight, however, the speed of the NHL finally caught up to Jett and his game was not as crisp as it has been so far this preseason.

Loose Pucks…

  • Matvei Michkov scored once again in-front of the Wells Fargo Center crowd. Once on the power-play and in overtime to send the Flyers faithful home happy. In three preseason games, Michkov has three goals and three assists.
  • Ivan Fedotov got his first full game action of the preseason. While it wasn’t a 37-save shutout like his counterpart Samuel Ersson on Thursday, Fedotov made the timely saves when needed. Finishing the night with 25-saves in the Flyers 3-2 win.
  • Sean Couturier came to the aide of Matvei Michkov in the 1st period when Bruins defenseman Billy Sweezy tried to jump Michkov. Couturier said postgame it wasn’t about protecting just Michkov, it was about telling everyone the Flyers are not here to be pushed around.
