Consistency in the NHL is hard to find.

It’s something the Flyers are still trying to find as their roller coaster of a start to  the season continues. Struggling once again when they don’t have their best stuff.

With the high-powered Colorado Avalanche in town, the Flyers needed to be close to, if not perfect, to slow down the Avalanche. Who had won four of their last six games entering tonight.

The Flyers were playing a simple game and pretty much their style of game in the 1st period. Much of which was a good back and forth style hockey game by both teams.

However, in the 2nd period, the Flyers unraveled and fall right into the Avalanche trap.

Colorado scored three times in the period. One of which was called back for goalie interference. But, all three goals were scored the same way.

For one, Cale Makar had all three. Second, all three looked the same – tired Flyers line with Makar finding a vacated spot in the high slot.

Defensive breakdown… tiredness… sloppiness… whatever it was, leaving one of the best offensive defenseman alone in the high slot with time and space is a recipe for disaster.

As seen by Makar finding the back of the net three times – twice officially.

The Flyers did find their game after the Avalanche took a 2-0 with 4:52 left in the 2nd period. And, continued it to start the 3rd period.

Owen Tippett scored his 4th goal of the season with 8:12 left in the 3rd period. Ending a four game goal-less drought.

Just 1:44 later, Tyson Foerster would make it a one goal game.

Foerster’s 4th goal of the season was his second in as many games. Coming in similar fashion as well by driving the net and tapping the loose puck home.

Aleksei Kolosov played his best game so far in his young NHL career. Stopping 26 shots in the 3-2 loss.

Erik Johnson was presented with his silver stick before tonight’s game to commemorate his 1000 games in the NHL. A special moment for Johnson against his former team where he spent 13 seasons.

Johnson received a Rolex and a bottle of wine from the Flyers. He also got a surprise visit from his former captain Gabe Landeskog who gave him a portrait and a trip for he + his wife to Napa Valley.

From the oldest to the youngest, Helge Grans made his NHL debut for the Flyers.

Grans, who was recalled this morning, entered the lineup for the injured Emil Andrae. Who is expected to miss some time with a mid-body injury.

In his debut, Grans played 16:11 and assisted on Foerster’s 3rd period goal.

The Flyers fall back below .500 on the season, 8-9-2. Next up, the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night at 7:30pm.
