The Philadelphia Flyers lost their third straight game to the New York Rangers. Losing 6-3 Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
With the fans in attendance going back & forth with Lets Go Rangers – Lets Go Flyers chants, so did the teams on the ice. Going back & forth in a fast paced opening period.
After a Rangers odd man rush, the Flyers would counter on their own. Leading to the opening goal by James van Riemsdyk. His 5th goal of the season.
The back & forth 1st period would continue. Leading to the tying goal late in the period. Artemi Panarin would finish off a nice passing play by the Rangers top line.
The Flyers would control the start of the 2nd period. But, it would fall apart seconds after their third power-play of the night.
A James van Riemsdyk turnover would lead to a K’Andre Miller break-away and a Rangers 2-1 lead.
After another Flyers turnover, Barclay Goodrow would give the Rangers a 3-1 lead just three minutes later.
Late in the period, Carter Hart would barely kept out a Chris Kreider break-away. Keeping the game 3-1 before Scott Laughton would score on a break-away on the ensuring Rangers power-play. His 6th goal of the season.
In the 3rd period, it would be all Rangers. Firing the 7 of the first 8 shots on net. Leading to a 4-2 lead before Morgan Frost made it a 4-3 game.
The Rangers would add not one, but two empty net goals to double up the Flyers.
Kevin Hayes Healthy Scratch
In the Flyers 6th game of the season, Travis Konecny and Kevin Hayes were benched for the 3rd period. A move that John Tortorella said he wanted to keep in the locker room.
Fast forward 25-games… Kevin Hayes found himself in a similar situation. Hayes was benched for the final period on Thursday in New Jersey.
However, instead of getting right back at it next game, Hayes found himself in the press-box. A move, once again, that John Tortorella said he wanted to keep in the locker room.
Even with a late scratch of Zack MacEwen due to illness, Tortorella still chose to scratch Hayes and dress seven defensemen.
Loose Pucks…
- Tonight ended the Flyers grueling 21-games in 40-night stretch. In those 21-games, the Flyers were 4-12-5.
