Game Recaps

Flyers Can’t Survive Shark Attack

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their 5th straight. Losing 3-2 in overtime to the San Jose Sharks Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

After 40-scoreless minutes, the Flyers & Sharks erupted for 4-goals in the 3rd period. Two-goals by both teams.

James van Riemsdyk scored the first & second goals of the period for the Flyers.

van Riemsdyk first scored of an incredible individual effort. Chipping the puck by Marc Edward-Vlasic & retrieving the puck before firing one bar down on Adin Hill.

His second of the night came on the power-play. van Riemsdyk would deflect home a Cam York shot from the point. York’s first career point in the NHL.

It would be all San Jose thereafter. Well, all Tomas Hertl.

Hertl would score three unanswered for the natural hat-trick. Two in regulation & the final just 24-seconds into overtime.

Martin Jones stopped 44 of the 47-shots in the losing effort.

Struggles Against San Jose Continue

The Flyers have played the Sharks 22-times in their history. In those 22-games, the Flyers have just 4-wins.

After yet another late collapse, the Flyers still have just 4-wins.

With the game in full control, the Flyers just could not sustain the Sharks pressure. Pressure that came with 20 3rd-period shots by San Jose.

Cam York Impresses, But Still Needs Work

With the Flyers defense dealing with covid, Cam York has gotten a shot. A shot that has been so good so far.

On the power-play in the 3rd period, York got his first NHL point. Showing off what he could bring to the Flyers lineup.

However, York is just 21-years-old and is still showing areas that need important.

In overtime, misplayed a simple 2v1 that lead to the Sharks game-winning goal. Allowing Tomas Hertl to walk-in from the point un-interrupted.

Flyers Covid List Shrinking

When the Flyers host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, the team will look a lot different. Different in a good way.

After Nick Seeler & Jackson Cates returned tonight, four more Flyers are expected back on Tuesday.

Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, & Travis Sanheim are all expected to clear covid protocol before Tuesday’s game.

All four will be in the lineup if they are off of the NHL covid list.
