Philadelphia Flyers Matvei Michkov is being called out by Spittin Chiclets. But, it’s far from the true from his past history.

Matvei Michkov’s name has been in the spotlight since the 2021 U-18 World Championship. The now memorable tournament where Michkov and Connor Bedard put on a show.
Now, almost five years later, Michkov is accustomed to his name being mentioned in the media and press, both positively and negatively.
The newest jab at the young Russian comes from the #1 hockey podcast, according to Apple Podcasts.
Spittin Chiclets, created by former players Ryan Whitney & Paul Bissonnette, are reporting that Michkov didn’t come into training camp in the best of shape.
“I’m hearing he (Michkov) didn’t come in ah great shape,” Whitney said on the latest episode of Spittin Chiclets. “I heard that, did you?”
Bissonnette immediately added, “he is out of shape… he is out of shape.”
Through the first two games, Michkov is pointless and averaging just over 14 minutes.

Is what Ryan Whitney and Spittin Chiclets are hearing justified? Far from the truth if you look at his past history.
Michkov wouldn’t be classified as the fastest of starters. Especially when you look at the first two games of the season over the past four seasons.
In 2022, as a 16-year-old in the KHL, he had no points in his first two games. His first point didn’t come until game six, which was followed by five points – 4 goals and 1 assist – in his next seven games.
The following season in the KHL, he had two points and then 10 points – 5 goals and 5 assists – in the next eight games.
Last season, in his first season in the NHL, it was a struggle as well. He had just one point and was having trouble getting up to the NHL speed. But, once again, followed it up with eight points – 4 goals and 4 assists – in his next six games.
So, is Michkov really out of shape?

If you go off the past history and the eye test, just look at last season if you need to see more, he is not out of shape.
In the first two games this season, he has not looked out of shape. It has actually been the opposite. He has actually looked a little lost at times, which is not surprising as he learns new head coach Rick Tocchet’s system.
So, before you rush to judgment on saying something about a guy, maybe do a little research on his past. Even better, maybe watch with your eyes first before you go on something you “heard”.
