PHILADELPHIA – Momentum has definitely not been on the Flyers side over the past few weeks. Many of their 10 losses in their last 12 games have come from giving up huge momentum swings.
Today, finally momentum swung in their favor thanks to their video department.
With the Kings already leading 2-0, former Flyer Andrei Kuzmenko thought he gave L.A. a 3-0 lead. The goal coming 40 seconds after the Kings made it 2-0.
But, after a quick review, the play was determined to be offsides. A great spot and challenge from the Flyers video team.
Instead of a goal that would have ended the game before it even really started, it was a momentum swing for the Flyers.
The Flyers would in the first minute of the second and third periods to tie the game.score 39 seconds into the second period and 25 seconds into the third period to tie the game.
Trevor Zegras’ 20th goal of the season came on the power-play 39 seconds into the second period. It was the second straight game the Flyers have scored on the man-advantage.
Travis Konecny’s 22nd goal of the season came 25 seconds into the third period. His fifth goal in the last three games was his second point of the night.
In overtime, however, that momentum would give the Flyers a good slap to the face.
After the Kings missed the net wide, Konecny would get the puck in center ice and go in on a break-away. His shot would ring off the post after beating Darcy Kuemper.
On the ensuring shift, the Kings would pin in Owen Tippett, Trevor Zegras, and Jamie Drysdale in their own zone for over a minute. Finally capitalizing on the tired Flyers with their second line change of the shift.
Dan Vladar was spectacular in net and kept the Flyers in the game. His play earned them a point today. He finished with 18 saves.
The Flyers continue their home-stand Tuesday night when they host the Washington Capitals at 7:00pm.
