John Tortorella gave his team a pass on Tuesday night for their lackluster performance. Using the travel home from Winnipeg on Sunday as a main reason.

Tonight, however, against the team they beat 2-1 in Winnipeg on Saturday, it was the same effort as Tuesday night’s 6-3 loss.

From the start, the Flyers once again looked flat.

The Jets, who own the best record in the NHL, definitely showcased that tonight. Out-hustling the Flyers to puck, out checking them, and quite frankly, showed how much farther the Flyers still have to go.

Now, obviously, the Flyers team understands what tomorrow is and what could be around the corner.

But, for the second straight game, the team just played flat.

And, while the looming trade deadline is an excuse, it is a tough sell to use an excuse for their performance for the second straight game. Two games, in which, saw the Flyers give up more goals than their first four games returning from the break.

While the Flyers did not give up four goals in the 1st period like Tuesday, it was the same feeling.

Anytime the Flyers would get a little momentum, a penalty or a bad shift would halt it. Especially the two penalties the Flyers took in the 1st period.

The league’s best power-play unit took advantage of both man-advantages in the 1st period. Scoring both goals in the first minute of each power-play.

When the Flyers lost five straight before the 4-Nations break, it was not due to lack of effort.

Many of the Flyers losses this year have actually some of their better efforts. Which has led to many postgame quotes by John Tortorella being happy with their effort.

But, for the past two games, nothing is very like-able about the Flyers game. Especially after their head coach gave them a pass last game.

Samuel Ersson was not at fault for this lose. Finishing the game with 23 saves. He was hung out to dry for the second straight game by the players playing in-front of him.

Scott Laughton’s line got the start tonight in what could be his last game in a Flyers uniform. Laughton got his name announced what could be one last time as a Flyers starter.

When his name was announced, Travis Konecny made sure it to make it a memory for Laughton. Tapping him on the shoulder multiple times to know how much he means to this team and city.

The trade deadline is tomorrow at 3:00pm.

Next up, the Seattle Kraken Saturday at 12:30 pm at the Wells Fargo Center.
