The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-2, Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center to extend their winning streak to five games.
Before the season, GM Danny Briere and head coach Danny Briere made it well known what the Flyers situation was. One that both used the correct word – “rebuild”.
But, Tortorella took it a step further. Making it also well known that the Flyers were not just going to lose.
After losing to San Jose, the Flyers season was at a crossroad. One that could have saw the team go down a really rough stretch.
However, the Flyers have done the opposite. Fighting back after a bad loss to win five straight.
With the likes of the LA Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, and Vegas Golden Knights in the rear view mirror, the Flyers did not let another trap game get the best of them.
With the game tied 1-1 to start the 2nd period, Bobby Brink – who returned to the lineup for Morgan Frost – would give the Flyers the energy boost needed to push ahead of the Blue Jackets.
Brink’s fourth goal of the season came just six seconds into the power-play. The Flyers third power-play goal in their last two games.
Samuel Ersson didn’t see much action, but this time around made the big save when necessary to keep the Flyers in-front. Finishing the night with 20 saves on 22 Blue Jackets shots.
Ivan Provorov Returns To Philadelphia
During the offseason, the Flyers made a major overhaul of their blue-line. An overhaul that saw Provorov traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In 532 games with the Flyers, Provorov finished with 65 goals and 152 assists.
Marc Staal Return Coming
During his media availability on Friday, John Tortorella said Marc Staal was cleared and good to go. But, as of game time on Sunday, Staal still remained on IR.
Before the game however, the Flyers placed Felix Sandstrom on waivers. A move to open a roster spot for Staal to return from IR.
