PHILADELPHIA: Just 10 days ago, the Flyers were in a playoff spot and were welcoming Scott Laughton back to Philadelphia for the first time.
Six games later, they now sit four points out of a playoff spot thanks to now their sixth straight loss.
Everything looked good in the first period for the Flyers. Travis Konecny opened up the scoring just six minutes into the game.
But, the wheels would fall off shortly thereafter and quickly.
New York would score three times in a matter of 80 seconds. The first three shots of the game for the Rangers all made it past Aleksei Kolosov, who made his first start of the season today.
Rick Tocchet made a quick pull of the young netminder in favor of Samuel Ersson. A role reversal from Thursday’s game where Ersson was pulled for Kolosov.
Ersson made some timely and big saves in the first period after entering the game.
But, in the second period, it would be Ersson’s penalty that would unravel the game for the second time.
After killing off an earlier power-play, the Rangers would score on Ersson’s penalty. New York would add two more goals in quickly thereafter to make it a 6-1 game.
It was the fifth straight game the Flyers have given up five or more goals. During which, they are being outscored 29 to 11.
Ersson finished with 22 saves in relief of Kolosov.
Travis Sanheim and Trevor Zegras both scored with the game already out of reach.
The Flyers now head west for a three game road trip. First up, Vegas Monday night at T-Mobile Arena at 8:00pm.
