Restricted free agent RW Owen Tippett has signed a two-year, $3M deal ($1.5M AAV) with the Philadelphia Flyers according to sources.
The 23-year-old RW was a restricted free agent after being qualified by the Flyers for $874,125.
Last season, Tippett finished with 10-goals & 11-assists in 63-games split between the Florida Panthers & Flyers.
At the trade deadline, Tippett was apart of the package the Flyers received from the Florida Panthers in return for former captain Claude Giroux. Along with a 2024 1st round pick & 2023 3rd round pick.
After the trade, Tippett finished with 4-goals & 3-assists in 21-games with the Flyers.
In his three year NHL career, Tippett has 18-goals & 22-assists in 115-career games. Including scoring 1-goal & 3-assists in 6-career playoff games.
The process to re-sign Tippett has not been the smoothest of jobs.
Until recently engaging in contract talks, the Flyers have had minimal contact with Tippett since qualifying him on July 12th.
Tippett, who was the Flyers most important restricted free agent, certainly got the cold shoulder from the Flyers this offseason. Left waiting until three weeks into free agency to even discuss a new deal with the Flyers.
However, after engaging in talks on Wednesday, the sides moved quickly on finalizing a two-year deal.
With Tippett’s deal done, the Flyers offseason is now complete. Now, focus heads towards training camp where the Flyers should know more on the status’s of their injured players.
The Flyers will open up their 2022-2023 season at the Wells Fargo Center on October 13th vs the New Jersey Devils. NHL training camp is just 52 days away.
