“My thoughts about tonight’s game are going to stay in the locker room. What I say up here will do the team no good.”

That is how John Tortorella started his short, 22 second press conference after Thursday’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. It was the second straight game in which the Flyers were lifeless and lacked luster.

Today, against the Seattle Kraken, his team responded to whatever he told them in the locker room after the game.

In the 1st period, the Flyers came out with energy, were winning battles, and looked like their usual selfs. Creating multiple scoring chances and drawing three power-plays. All of which came without a goal.

But, sometimes, even when you are controlling the play, you need a lucky bounce to get you over the hump. One that came with 31.7 left in the period.

Owen Tippett’s 19th goal of the season came off a puck check by a Kraken player. The puck deflecting in off of Tippett’s glove.

The Flyers effort in the 1st period, however, did not translate to the rest of the game.

After the first tv timeout in the 2nd period, it was all Seattle the rest of the way. Making the Flyers look like a team that is just begging for the season to be over.

In the final 32:42 of play, Seattle outscored the Flyers 4-0 with a 20-10 shot differential.

Nothing changed. The players were the same, the game was still in Philadelphia. But, for some reason a switch flipped and the Flyers looked like their lackluster selfs from the past two games.

Post game, that message was a blur however with the players and coaches not agreeing.

The mood from the locker room was obviously the loss of Scott Laughton played a factor. But, their head coach flat out said that didn’t matter and they just played bad once again.

Whether it had any factor does not take away from the fact for the third straight game the Flyers struggled badly. Today being more glaring because it was a lesser opponent.

Quick Hits…

+ Samuel Ersson started career game #100 this afternoon against the Seattle Kraken. In his first 100 starts, Ersson is 47-34-11.

+ Matvei Michkov continued his resurgence since the 4Nations break, adding another assist to his season total. In 7 games since the break, Michkov has 4 goals & 7 assists.

+ Travis Konecny goal-less drought now stands at 7 games. He has just 1 goal in his last 17 games and his frustration boiled over a little today. Breaking a couple sticks out of frustration.
