Reinforcements to the rescue?

The Flyers annual family trip kicked off tonight in Boston. This year, it was the Mom’s who got to make the trip with their sons.

“They’re were giving us a hard time and saying, you know, we don’t do well, they won’t come back, kind of thing,” Owen Tippett jokingly said before the game about the moms making the trip. “It’s fun to have them around and keeps things light.”

Following in the footsteps of the Dad’s last season – getting 3/4 points – the Mom’s started their two games with their sons with a win. Beating the Boston Bruins 2-0 Tuesday night at TD Garden.

After a scoreless 1st period, Tyson Foerster would get the Flyers on the board first.

His second goal of the season came mere seconds after missing the net on his initial shot from the slot. The puck then rimmed around the wall to Emil Andrae, who passed the puck back to Foerster in the slot for the goal.

Andrae’s primary assist was his first career point in the NHL.

John Tortorella hasn’t been shy to say the Flyers play at 5v5 hasn’t been good. Especially with the success the team had last season rotating five man unit after five man unit.

“A little bit more determination in our checking.” Tortorella said postgame on what he saw different tonight. “I think we went the right direction,”

Tonight, was just another step in the Flyers regaining their form from last season.

The passes were cleaner. The defensive awareness was on point. But, the clear difference tonight against the Bruins was their ability to transition the puck from their end zone to the neutral zone.

Which was evident on the Flyers first goal. A play that was started in their own zone before a perfectly timed stretch pass by Emil Andrae to Morgan Frost.

Joel Farabee added the empty netter and celebrated in the corner pointing towards the Mom’s. A cool moment for the players on the ice.

Samuel Ersson made 23 saves in the shutout win over the Bruins. His third win of the season.

“This is kind of like one of those wins where we kind of get a little bit of our swagger back,” Ersson said after the win.

The Flyers improve to 3-6-1 on the season. Next up, the St Louis Blues Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center at 7:00pm.
