The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Nashville Predators, 5-4, Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Before the game, the Flyers honored captain Claude Giroux for his 1000th game in the NHL. All coming in a Flyers uniform.
It was an emotional and very well put together tribute by the Flyers for Claude Giroux.
As the puck dropped, it took the Flyers a few minutes to get their legs. With their first shot not coming to the 17:03 mark. Being outshoot by the Predators 3-0 in the first three minutes.
However, it would be all Flyers in the 1st period after that. Outshooting the Predators 17-8 over the final 16 minutes & would take a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.
Travis Sanheim would get his 5th goal of the season in the 1st period. Sanheim would slide one past Juuse Saros after the puck sat in the slot.
Just 23 seconds in the 2nd period, Nashville would tie the game. The first of five goals in the first 5:16 of the period.
Tanner Jeannot would beat Carter Hart bar-down after Colton Sissons got away with a clear cross-check to Travis Konecny.
1:01 later, the Flyers would retake the lead. Cam York would get his 2nd on the season on the power-play.
2:35 later, James van Riemsdyk would give the Flyers a 3-1 lead. van Riemsdyk would find the puck in the mist of a mess in-front and fire it home.
1:28 later, former Flyer Phil Myers would get his first goal of the season. HIs first goal for Nashville.
As the period winded down, Travis Konecny would be whistled for a double minor high sticking penalty. Nashville would make the Flyers pay & tie the game with 3:55 left in the 2nd period.
In the 3rd period, Nashville would take the lead just 1:11 into the period. Filip Forsberg would fire one by Carter Hart with his stick between his legs. A highlight reel goal for Forsberg.
With the Flyers needing a push, Kevin Hayes went to work. Scoring the game tying goal with 4:15 left in the 3rd & assisting on the game winner with 1:11 left.
Carter Hart made 30 saves on 34 shots to earn the win.
Claude Giroux’s 1000th Game
It was a special night tonight for Flyers captain Claude Giroux. The man who was drafted as his GM forgot his name, Giroux entered the same boat as his GM.
Tonight, Claude Giroux joined Bobby Clarke as the only two Flyers to play 1000-games in Philadelphia.
In his 1000-games, Giroux has 291 goals & 609 assists.
It may have been Giroux’s last game in Philadelphia. But, the captain went out with a deserving win.
As the trade deadline looms, many expect Claude Giroux to be traded to the Florida Panthers.
