The Philadelphia Flyers landed a potential franchise offensive player Thursday, selecting Cutter Gauthier with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft.
From the United States Developmental Program, Gauthier finished with 53 G & 40 A in 76-games split between the U-18 & USMDP. Leading both teams in goals with 34 & 19.
Gauthier has been one of the biggest risers in the draft. Scouts have taken stock in his size, skill, & versatility at the forward position in the lead-up to the draft.
The 6’3″ 201lbs forward finished as the #5 ranked prospect according to Bob McKenzie and is coming off a strong season with the United States Developmental Team.
“He’s so good defensively, using his body well along the boards and in corners to win puck battles and move up ice. Offensively, he’s incredibly efficient. The puck is on his stick and off his stick in transition, but he also recognizes when he has pockets of space to initiate offense himself. Gauthier is unafraid to drive the puck to the net and protects the puck nicely when he chooses to do so.” -EliteProspects 2022 NHL Draft Guide
Gauthier said his game is modeled after Mark Scheifele, who Cutter met this year during training. Also mentioned Pierre-Luc Dubois. Both are big hard working power forwards.
Headed to Boston College next year, Gauthier believes he could turn pro after one season in the NCAA.

Let’s not be so quick to think Cutter is the next Barber or Bossy. The Flyers need more than just 1 (possible) star. Let’s let Cutter show us all he works work and can help, before putting anymore pressure on this young man!
