The Philadelphia Flyers will get a glimpse of their future tonight. Highly praised defense prospect, Cam York, will make his NHL debut. But, will York be the last to make his debut this season?
York, 6’0″ 182lbs, is a former 1st round pick by the Flyers in 2019. Being selected 14th overall & the first Flyers draft pick under GM Chuck Fletcher.
After being drafted out of the US National Team Development Program, York spent the last two seasons at the University of Michigan. Before turning pro this year on March 31st.
During his two seasons at Michigan, York scored 9-goals & 27-assists in 54-career-games.
Since turning pro in March, York has played in 6-games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Scoring 2-goals & 3-assists.
“Cam is a really good two-way defenseman,’’ GM Chuck Fletcher said. “He’s one of the modern-era defensemen we’ve seen so many of enter the NHL over the last decade; smart defender, has a very good stick. Probably most importantly, he excels at getting you out of your zone and getting you up the ice. . .he moves the puck really well.”
With Shayne Gostisbehere suspended, the Flyers have recalled York on an emergency basis. Which means York will play at least tonight & tomorrow for the Flyers.
If the Flyers wanted York to play on Monday, one of their two remaining recalls will have to be used.
Could Felix Sandstrom Start On Monday?
When Cam York was recalled to the practice squad on Thursday, he did not come alone. Goalie prospect Felix Sandstrom also was recalled as well.
Sandstrom, 6’2″ 191lbs, is a former 3rd round pick by the Flyers in 2015.
Head coach Alain Vigneault already announced his goalies for this weekend’s games. Brian Elliott is starting tonight & Alex Lyon is starting tomorrow. Which leaves just one start left for the Flyers this season on Monday.
Could Sandstrom start in the season finale Monday vs the New Jersey Devils?
