PHILADELPHIA – Porter Martone scored his first career NHL goal to lift the Flyers, 2-1, over the visiting Boston Bruins in overtime.
It was second point of the game for his first multi-point of his career.
Christian Dvorak, who also had two points, set up the game winner from behind the net. Martone set up Dvorak’s 17th goal of the season in the first period with a tip pass to spring him on a 2v1.
The Flyers didn’t get a power-play late in the third period when Owen Tippett was clearly tripped in center ice.
In overtime, the game winner was scored on an unusual 5v3 after Boston took two penalties in a matter of four seconds. The first by David Pastrnak and the second by Charlie McAvoy.
Dan Vladar was spectacular once again in net for the Flyers. Finishing the night with 18 saves in his 26th win of the season.
It was his 31st start this season allowing two or fewer goals. The Flyers are 21-5-5 in those starts.
The Flyers are now in a playoff spot for the first time since Jan. 12. Their 14-6-1 record since the Olympic break is second best in the NHL.
The Flyers now head out on the road to start a three game road. First up the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.
