The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their 9th straight game Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Losing to the Colorado Avalanche 7-5 in Mike Yeo’s first game behind the Flyers bench.
Captain Claude Giroux would give the Flyers a 1-0 lead just over 6-minutes in. But, the Flyers would give up four-unanswered goals in a span of 5:46 shortly thereafter. With Colorado scoring those four-goals on five-shots.
After a timeout, the Flyers would answer. Scoring goals on both of their next shots to make it 4-3 Colorado after the 1st period.
Colorado would add to their lead in the 2nd. Scoring their 5th goal of the night early in the 2nd period.
The Flyers would make it a one-goal game early in the 3rd. Cam Atkinson would get his team leading 9th goal of the season. However, It would be all Colorado thereafter. Scoring twice on their 19-shots in the 3rd period.
Scott Laughton would get his 2nd short-handed goal of the season late in the 3rd. Martin Jones stopped 43 of the 50 shots he faced in the losing effort.
Oskar Lindblom 1st Of Season
With 3:32 left in the 1st period, Oskar Lindblom got a monkey off his back. A monkey that had lasted the last 28-games.
In his 22nd second game of the season, Lindblom would net his 1st goal of the season. A goal resulting from a line change by interim head coach Mike Yeo.
After a promotion to the Flyers top line, Lindblom was reunited with two familiar teammates, Sean Couturier & Travis Konecny. Who were Lindblom’s line-mates during his breakout before his cancer diagnosis in 2019.
On the night, Lindblom finished with a goal & 3-shots in 16:13 of ice time.
7-Goal 1st Period
The Flyers had scored just 13-goals over their past 8-games. In need of a jolt, the Flyers & Avalanche had a 1st period to remember.
After taking a 1-0 lead, the period took a turn. A turn that no-one, including the Flyers, saw the 1st period turning into.
In a span of 12:18, the Flyers & Avalanche combined for 7-goals on 14-shots. A span that saw the Avalanche score four unanswered & the Flyers answer with two goals to end the 1st period.

After an embarrassing 8th straight loss, the last coming by a 7-1 blowout, the Flyers needed to make a change. A change that came with the head coach.
Alain Vigneault was relieved of his duties before the game tonight. Assistant coach Michel Therrien was also relieved of his duties as well.
Mike Yeo, who was the lone assistant not relieved of his duties, was promoted to interim head coach. A position that may be only for the short-term.
Recently inducted Flyers Hall-of-Famer, Rick Toccket, is a name to watch to possibly be the Flyers next head coach.
