PHILADELPHIA: Are the Flyers seeing double? No, not talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning who they will play twice here in Philadelphia in a matter of three days.

Can a Flyers backup goalie win in the months of December and January?

Last season, the backup tandem of Ivan Fedotov and Aleksei Kolosov went 14 straight without a win during this time.

Samuel Ersson, who made his first start in 10 days, is now in that role this season. Dan Vladar has simply outplayed and has run away with the starting role.

In his last last seven starts, Ersson is just 1-4-2, all of which he has given up three or more goals.

Tonight, was no different.

The Lightning scored seven times on the struggling net-minder. Oh which, Ersson would want at least four of them back, especially in the third period was the walls started to cave in.

Tampa scored four times in the first half of the third period. The goals getting weaker and weaker let in as the Lightning score went up.

Rick Tocchet had no choice but to leave Ersson in the game and take the beating, especially with a rematch on Monday night.

Ersson finished the night with just 16 saves and seven goals against.

Garnet Hathaway scored his first goal of the season in the first period. The goal ended a 38 game goal-less drought for Hathaway who threw the monkey off his back heading through the handshake line.

Travis Konecny missed tonight’s game after leaving Thursday’s game after the second period. Rick Tocchet mentioned this morning he is feeling better but was not available for tonight’s game.

The Flyers return to action for a rematch with the Lightning Monday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena at 7:00pm.
